After trying to sell Leon Goretzka in the summer, seeing that fail and then witnessing him win his spot in the starting XI back with some positive performances in recent weeks, it would not have been a surprise if Bayern Munich had started to re-think their plans to offload the former Schalke 04 player. But, via @iMiaSanMia, the plan remains the same:
From Bayern’s perspective, nothing has changed regarding Leon Goretzka. Within the club, it’s still said that the midfielder is allowed to leave. A January move is out of the question for Goretzka. In the summer however, a year before the end of his contract, that could change. Another season without the backing of the club’s bosses would be one too many for him. Should he receive concrete offers from abroad, especially from the Premier League, Goretzka would consider them.
There have not yet been any talks with the club’s management about his future. There’s no pressure for that either. Vincent Kompany appreciates Goretzka and regularly praises him for his commitment, hard work and training performances. Goretzka likes the communication with the coach. But he’s been in professional football long enough to recognize the signals from the club. For now, he rarely speaks publicly, doesn’t want to complain and deliberately doesn’t give any interviews. He wants to let the football speak for him.
At the end of the day, that is business. The club does not believe Goretzka is the right fit at this moment for the club while the experienced German international needs to find a way back into Julian Nagelsmann’s good graces in time for the 2026 World Cup. At that point, a separation may just be the right solution, however much of a bad taste it will leave.
Bayern Munich is in the midst of a number of important contract situation, so let’s talk about them on the Bavarian Podcast Works Show!
