At the end of each college football season, a strong contingent of the nation’s top underclassmen elect to forgo the remainder of their eligibility and get an early start on their professional careers. While the incentive to remain on campus for another year or two becomes more enticing with each passing year as NIL develops into more of a commonplace inducement, hordes of star players still declare for the NFL Draft rather than stick around the college ranks.
The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the 2023 draft was Monday, Jan. 15, and with that key date now in the past, the full list of early departures is complete. Among the biggest names entering the draft pool and declining the option to return to college are USC’s Caleb Williams, Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., Alabama’s Dallas Turner and numerous others.
Some of the best teams in college football were hit harder by the draft declaration deadline than others. Unsurprisingly, perennial CFP contenders faced the most impactful departures, but some teams held onto more talent than expected.
