There is no trophy for winning the college football offseason, but gearing up for the campaign with a tremendous spring is paramount in the race for the national championship. Teams such as Ohio State, Texas and Oregon positioned themselves over the last few months for runs at college football supremacy with their monster recruiting classes, incredible transfer portal hauls and retention of top talent.
Offseason buzz only goes so far, though. Should one of the aforementioned teams disappoint during the 2024 campaign, they would not be the first squad to lose momentum and fall short of expectations. With only so many conference titles and Playoff berths up for grabs, someone will fail to deliver on their loftiest goals.
Among the schools seeking to join that elite tier are Ole Miss, Miami and Texas A&M, who all used the transfer portal to build rosters capable of competing at the highest level of their respective conferences. Of course, Deion Sanders at Colorado also remained in the headlines this spring and will have the nation’s attention in the second year of his tenure.
