The race for the 2025 college football recruiting title took a major turn July 4 when Oregon picked up a commitment from five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore — the No. 5 overall prospect and top-ranked receiver in the cycle. With the addition of their new class headliner, the Ducks continued to surge up the national leaderboard, all the way to No. 5 behind only Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame. With the momentum Dan Lanning built in the early days of summer, though, it may not be long before Oregon surpasses those programs.
While the early signing period is still five months away, the months of June and July are two of the most important in any recruiting cycle as prospects often commit to their programs of choice on the heels of summer official visits. The Ducks dominated that portion of the recruiting calendar with eight commitments since the calendar flipped to June.
“Can I take a long shot?” 247Sports’ Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins said earlier this week on the Football Recruiting Podcast of his favorite team to win the recruiting crown. “What about Oregon? They’ve shot up into the top 10. … They’re one I have my eye on just because of Dan Lanning. I always go back to the image of him on the signing days with the cigar. We know that he’s going to have some fireworks out there, and really, over the past few days, we’ve seen this recruiting class come together.”
