Should the Lakers do this deal with Atlanta for Dejounte Murray? Should the Hawks? And what should we make of LeBron’s (annual) power play that surrounds this situation? Diving into the talks, power dynamics and more from both sides, at @TheAthletic

Austin Reaves is off the table for the Lakers in any trade discussions moving forward, unless it’s a “clear-cut All-Star” in return, per @jovanbuha (theathletic.com/5253703/2024/0…).
Reaves continues to be a non-starter in any trade negotiations with the Hawks for Dejounte Murray. pic.twitter.com/gOD4vwmqNn – 12:16 PM

If this is Dejounte Murray’s last quarter in front of hte home crowd in Atlanta, he’s certainly making it count. A pair of tough 3s over Kawhi and PG, and then a dime for a Johnson and-1. Hawks up 4 with five minutes left. – 9:36 PM

More on this storyline
One source close to the process optimistically insisted Tuesday night that a Dejounte Murray deal that would send Murray out of Atlanta has not been extinguished as a possibility. I am less optimistic personally, but the source certainly has me curious. On Trade Deadline Eve, then, Murray appeared to be most accomplished player in the league who could still be dealt this week … barring an 11th-hour surprise name that had yet to reveal itself as of this printing. The unavoidable reality here: Entering Wednesday’s business, there was still no indication leaguewide that the Hawks will be able to secure a trade partner willing to furnish them with the two first-round picks they have consistently sought for Murray. Atlanta, of course, has made it known that it wants at least two future first-round picks for Murray after trading three future firsts and a first-round pick swap to San Antonio to acquire him in July 2022 after Murray had an All-Star season with the Spurs. -via marcstein.substack.com / February 7, 2024
Evan Sidery: The Hawks don’t appear to have an offer on the table including multiple first-round picks for Dejounte Murray, per @wojespn (podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…). Atlanta’s best return package for Murray might only include a good young player or expiring contract alongside one first-round… pic.twitter.com/GUCFKcnT9u -via Twitter @esidery / February 7, 2024
As Marc Stein reported recently, and which was confirmed by a league source to The Athletic, second-year Hawks coach Quin Snyder is known to be advocating for the Hawks to hold onto Murray. That sort of prominent voice is certainly enough to split the room, so to speak, when a particular trade is being analyzed. -via The Athletic / February 7, 2024
