Anderson (SC) Westside quarterback Cutter Woods is one of the most prolific passers in the 2025 class, lighting up defenses to the tune of 3,915 yards and 42 touchdowns as a junior, en route to a state championship.
Auburn and Indiana are the latest programs to offer and both opportunities are scholarships the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Woods is psyched about.
Woods has had a connection with new Indiana co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri for awhile now, having landed an early offer from Sunseri and Curt Cignetti when they were building James Madison into a power.
“Met Coach Sunseri last year when he offered me with JMU,” Woods said. “His history with quarterbacks and how well him and Cignetti will get an offense going. I think it’ll start looking that way in Indiana.”
Woods made it to an Auburn game last year and liked what he saw on The Plains. He’s also known the staff for several years now.
“Game atmosphere with fans and students was awesome,” Woods said. “Spent the night and my family went to church Sunday in Auburn, really liked that. Town in general is really cool. I met Coach (Hugh) Freeze and Coach (Kent) Austin at Liberty a few years back. So we’ve had a good relationship for awhile. Have a lot of respect for Coach Austin, we’ve kept in touch and he’s been great to keep that going.”
Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest are other full-rides Woods is strongly looking into.
“Similar at Syracuse like Indiana,” Woods said. “The way Coach (Fran) Brown relates to players and parents with talking to them, he’s great at building a team. Met Coach Nunz a few weeks ago and how well he knows football and his whole family has been around it for years.
No program from this list has been in the game longer than Wake Forest. He is aiming to get to their campus on March 21.
“Wake was first Power Five offer,” Woods said. “Coach (Warren) Ruggerio runs an offense throwing deep and a lot of touchdowns. Him and Coach (Dave) Clawson are a solid team and stable. I like how they run the program at Wake and have for awhile to compete.”
Virginia head coach Tony Elliott went by Woods school in January.
“Coach Elliott is an awesome guy,” Woods said. “He spent time coming to my school. Watched him when he was OC at Clemson and what he did there. Coach (Taylor) Lamb is from this area and his dad has been a great head coach at universities right near me so I only hear good things. Want to see their program do well and they throw the ball around too.”
Woods feels a connection with Virginia Tech’s Brent Pry and Tyler Bowen. He made it there in the fall.
“Coach Pry & Bowen I’ve enjoyed,” he said. “They’re building a great program and bringing them back. Loved game day there too. Got to one. Love the town. Huge football town with lots of history and military support.”
In addition to his football prowess Woods has maintained a 4.4 GPA.
