If one has an elite quarterback in college football, there’s a chance. It takes talent at other positions to win big, but quarterbacks who lead, generate explosive plays and make those around them better are worth their weight in gold. There are at a least a half-dozen programs ahead of the 2024 season which have multiple stars to do just that.
In the transfer portal era, teams are lucky to have two players ready to roll in quarterback room. Scholarships are limited, guys want to play and those who are highly-recruited often stay for a year before they’re looking elsewhere for playing time and opportunity.
One of the most important factors in determining elite-level quarterback rooms is there’s very little talent drop-off expected after an injury to a starter. That’s not to say there’s no adjustment period, but if it lasts more than a couple series, these teams in the national championship hunt next season could suffer major changes relative to expectations.
