Golf is a game, my friends. Games are supposed to be fun.
I know we’ve said it before but we’re going to keep saying it until I start seeing some smiles, dammit!
I kid, I kid.
One of the things that makes golf fun is anything that’s a “limited edition” or “special edition.” Those just-for-the-hell-of-it items can bring an element of jocularity to a game that could use a jolt or two at times.
Bridgestone Golf has done a fine job of doing just that in 2024. The Christmas Santa BOO Balls, announced Monday, are the latest Bridgestone limited-edition mirth-making endeavor. By our count, Bridgestone has released six special-edition/limited-edition golf balls this year. Since we at MyGolfSpy love ranking stuff, we figured we’d rank these.
You know, for fun.
Here we go….
#6: Bridgestone/Period Correct collaboration TOUR B X
I rank this sixth out of six for one simple reason.
I have no idea who or what Period Correct is.
Like many of you, I read Connor’s piece on the collaboration, but I’m still scratching my head. They’re out of stock so apparently somebody gets it.
Just not this Boomer.
#5: Bridgestone E12 Contact Patriot Pack
The only reason this one isn’t higher is recency bias. The 4th of July was a long time ago when the sun was shining, the birds were chirping and the winter coat was in storage.
It’s also out of stock. However, if we write this again next summer, I’d rank it higher for two reasons: I love the 15-pack and I love even more that proceeds benefit Tee It Up for the Troops.
There’s nothing like a little star-spangled flag waving with your Independence Day round.
#4: Bridgestone Halloween BOO TOUR B XS
If you make golf balls and have Boo Weekley on your Tour staff and you don’t offer a special-edition Halloween ball, we can’t be friends.
This one was a layup and Bridgestone gets extra credit for the spooky orange-and-black packaging and the bloody OO next to its B logo. Boo, get it? The only reason it doesn’t rank higher is, well, recency bias.
Sadly, it, too, is out of stock.
#3: Bridgestone Thanksgiving Turkey TOUR B XS
If you grew up in New England in the ‘60s, you learned the story of John Alden, Priscilla Mullins, the Pilgrims, the Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving. If John and Priscilla played in a Friday night couples league, my guess is they’d tee these babies up.
Again, Bridgestone gets credit for fun and creative packaging. The turkey logo is a little cartoonish but since we still have leftovers in the freezer, recency bias wins out over the Halloween ball.
If I’m Bridgestone, I’m getting in touch with the WKRP In Cincinnati people for next year. A KRP Turkey Drop/Les Nessman Buckeye Newshawk Award special-edition ball would truly be epic. Or maybe the Butterball Turkey people? A Butterball Ball with one of those pop-out thermometers?
I’d be so in.
#2: Bridgestone Santa BOO Tour B RX
Here’s where recency bias loses out, even if it’s only by a week. These came out Monday and again Bridgestone is doing what’s right, good and decent by using Boo Weekley, this time as a camo Santa.
The packaging is rockin’-around-the-Christmas-tree perfect, and the image of Weekley with a Santa hat covering his camo cap is on point. The video with the St. Andre gang as elves is the candy cane in the proverbial Christmas stocking.
They’re on sale now on Bridgestone’s website for $44.99.
#1: Bridgestone/Pabst Blue Ribbon 180th Anniversary Collaboration
What could be better than Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas combined? Why, a beer, of course. Especially a Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. Pabst and Bridgestone got together last week to celebrate Pabst’s 180th anniversary with a knock-it-out-of-the-brewery collab.
The case of Pabst packaging is spot-on perfect, the logo is top-notch and the towel? Out-friggin’-standing.
Seriously, this one hit home. My old man used to drink Pabst in the “What’ll you have?” days and I had Pabst Blue Ribbon on my mind in college watching Patrick Swayze succumb to disco fever while out on the town with a hot ‘70s chick. I had the leisure suit, just not the dance moves.
There you have it: the ultimate, comprehensive ranking of the 2024 Bridgestone limited-edition golf balls. Now it’s your turn. Are you a joyful fan of limited-edition offerings such as these or are you a grumpy, anti-fun candidate for coal in your stocking, Mr. Grinch?
Again, I kid. I kid.
