David Alaba initially had a decent start at Real Madrid after switching from Bayern Munich in 2021, but he’s had slight niggling injuries which kept him out of the team every now and then. This culminated in an ACL tear against Villarreal in December 2023 which has kept him out of action until now, keeping him out of Austria’s Euro 2024 squad. Despite his anticipated comeback, Madrid seems to have had enough.
Spanish news outlet Fichajes (as captured by Sport Bild) report that Los Blancos are considering selling Alaba as they find his replacement. His teammate and defensive partner Eder Militão also faces the same fate; he is also out with an ACL tear.
Nothing is set in stone, though, as the likely outcome is that Alaba returns to action in the new year; he wants to be at 100% and not rush his recovery to avoid potential injuries popping up in the future.
