SEC money was a real thing in the college basketball transfer portal. Nearly a third of the top 60 players in the 2024 cycle landed at an SEC program. This football-crazed conference has shifted to make basketball a real priority, and the cash influx has helped numerous SEC programs dominate the offseason.
Chris Beard and Ole Miss will enter 2024-25 with one of its most talented rosters. Georgia’s Mike White would say the same thing. Nate Oats took Alabama to the Final Four last year and had a No. 1 seed the previous season, but some believe this year’s roster is deeper and better than them all. New coaches like Arkansas’ John Calipari, Kentucky’s Mark Pope and Vanderbilt’s Mark Byington had to heavily lean on the portal for reinforcements. They all landed multiple pieces that look poised for big years, on paper.
There are lofty expectations for so many SEC clubs, and the hits (and misses) from the transfer portal will have its fingertips all over this league race.
