The college football spring transfer portal window will open Tuesday. After adding former Ohio State receiver Julian Fleming during the winter, that position remains forecasted as a focal point in Penn State’s upcoming exploration of portal options.
Penn State was likely to look for more receiver help even before senior KeAndre Lambert-Smith entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. The Nittany Lions were engaged with several transfer targets at the position in December and January, hosting a few on campus, before ultimately adding only Fleming as a midyear enrollee.
When the roster regrouped in January and Lambert-Smith remained on board by using COVID eligibility, that wasn’t the outcome many anticipated. After collecting 51 catches for 645 yards and four touchdowns through nine games last fall, he finished with only two receptions for 28 yards in the last four contests combined, including a Peach Bowl in which he did not start and saw a season-low 21 snaps.
