Bayern Munich’s desire to refresh the wing position is very clear. After splashing the cash on winger Michael Olise in the summer and attempting to offload star winger Kingsley Coman last summer, there were some eyebrows raised at the effort put in to refresh the wing position. However, for one reason or another, none of the wingers have truly convinced this season and have put too much of the attacking burden on the likes of Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane. Therefore, Bayern is looking for another winger.
And it seems that search has lead to a rather surprising front runner, via @iMiaSanMia:
Bayern want Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens (20). The Englishman is high on the club’s list for the summer. Vincent Kompany and Max Eberl are reportedly raving about him internally. His situation is being closely monitored, and Bayern have already gathered important information. Gittens is aware of Bayern’s interest.
However, if Bayern wants the Borussia Dortmund winger, they will need to pony up the cash:
If Gittens expresses his desire to leave in the summer, Dortmund are dreaming of a transfer fee in the region of €100m. BVB have not received any inquiries from other clubs yet. Gittens’ salary in Dortmund is currently around €3m gross per year.
His performance against Bayern this season was rather telling of the player’s current level: He scored an utterly brilliant individual goal to give Dortmund the lead before rather disappearing for the rest of the match. Gittens is capable of being a brilliant inspiration and the most dire of slumps. Remember, Bayern’s transfer record is the €95 million spent to prise Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. Spending around the same on a notoriously inconsistent winger, however talented he is, would represent a large risk. However, his potential is incredible. Would such an outlay be worth it? Apparently, Kompany and Eberl think so.
