The Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy’s mutual decision to part ways on Monday has ignited intense speculation about who will take the helm of one of the NFL’s most prestigious coaching positions.
As expected, the rumor mill churned out several potential candidates, with Colorado’s head coach and Cowboys legend Deion Sanders emerging as an intriguing possibility, especially after reports indicated discussions between him and Jerry Jones.
Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan has offered his perspective on the situation, acknowledging Sanders’ commanding presence in the football world.
Ryan believes Sanders’ status as one of the NFL’s greatest players would naturally command respect in a coaching role.
However, his attention quickly turned to another candidate he believed could be the perfect fit for Dallas – Anthony Lynn.
“Watch out for Anthony Lynn, and I’m gonna tell you, Anthony Lynn is a way better football coach than many people give him credit for,” Ryan emphasized.
He went on to make a strong case for his former colleague, adding, “Anthony Lynn, I think, makes perfect sense here. He’s an outstanding coach. I had the opportunity; he was with me for several years. I think he’s one of the finest coaches in the NFL.”

Lynn, currently the Washington Commanders’ running backs coach, has substantial head coaching experience.
His history with Dallas adds another layer of intrigue to his candidacy.
He worked as the Cowboys’ running backs coach during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, giving him valuable insight into the organization’s inner workings.
As Ryan pointed out, this familiarity with the Cowboys’ culture could make Lynn a compelling choice for the position.
