New York Jets fans might have some mixed feelings about Rex Ryan.
Nevertheless, one thing’s undeniable: They haven’t been competitive since he left.
Now, with the team looking for a new head coach, they could bury the hatchet and get back together.
The former head coach reportedly said he intends to interview for the Jets’ head coaching position, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed that he’s a realistic option for them.
Actually a possibility, believe it or not, as a candidate who could be interviewed. https://t.co/l2Vfeu9a5a

Ryan often made the rounds for his bold takes and antics during his days as a head coach, and he’s had his fair share of bold remarks about the Jets organization in the past.
The 62-year-old coached the Jets from 2009 to 2014, and that was their best tenure in recent memory.
They fell short of the AFC Championship Game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011 and had multiple deep playoff runs.
Then, the team decided to cut ties with him after a 4-12 season, and the separation wasn’t particularly amicable.
Ryan then had a brief stint with the Buffalo Bills before becoming an analyst for ESPN.
He has been overly critical of the Jets and their handling of business since his departure, which, to be fair, hasn’t been particularly smooth.
Even so, the Jets haven’t even come close to playoff contention since they fired him, and he’s been very outspoken about his desire to coach again.
He’s a great defensive coach, and judging by their recent performance, they couldn’t do much worse.
