For the third time in the last week, an FBS head coach has been fired.
Rice has parted ways with head coach Mike Bloomgren, a source tells CBS Sports and 247Sports.
Bloomgren had been the Owls’ head coach since 2018. In those seven seasons, Bloomgren posted a 24-52 record, including a 2-6 mark to start this year.
The firing comes after Rice fell, 17-10, to UConn on Saturday. It was the Owls’ fifth loss in six games against FBS opponents this season.
ECU and Southern Miss were the first two schools to fire their coaches in-season last week, when Mike Houston and Will Hall were fired. Now, Rice becomes school No. 3.
