By signing Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun to extensions by Monday’s deadline, the Houston Rockets signaled they don’t plan on being a cap space team next offseason but sources say it was also an indication they don’t plan to make any signifiant trades during the current season.
When the Rockets acquired future draft picks originating from the Phoenix Suns in their trade with the Brooklyn Nets, there was immediately speculation that they could be pursuing a trade for a superstar such as Kevin Durant.
There is a belief that in signing Green in particular to an extension, he becomes easier to trade in the future. If Green were to have become a restricted free agent this coming offseason, he would have to participate in a sign-and-trade in order to be used in a potential deal.
