Ryan Spann recently snapped his three-fight losing streak by defeating former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight title contender, Ovince Saint Preux, via submission at UFC 307. But despite getting back in the win column at 205 pounds, “Superman” is looking for a change of scenery.
Per a report from MMA Junkie, Spann will be moving up to the Heavyweight division and will make his debut in the weight class at UFC Vegas 104 in Las Vegas, Nevada against Waldo Cortes-Acosta on March 15, 2025.
Spann — who started off his career as a Middleweight — amassed a record of 7-5 at 205 pounds under the UFC banner, but never managed to crack the Top 10 despite securing huge wins against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Dominick Reyes and Ion Cutelaba.
As for Cortes-Acosta, he is currently enjoying a three-fight win streak, defeating Lukasz Brzeski, Andrei Arlovski, and Robelis Despaigne during his hot streak. All told, he is 4-1 inside the Octagon. For Spann, defeating Cortes-Acosta (No. 13) — who competed for LFA and made his way into UFC via the Contender Series like Spann did — would be a nice start to his heavyweight venture.
And since the 265-pound division isn’t as loaded as other weight classes are, a spot in the Top 15 wouldn’t be too hard to acquire if he can rack up a few impressive wins consecutively.
