SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is trying to crack down on coaches directing players to feign injury during games.
In a memo sent to SEC coaches and athletic directors, Sankey ordered teams to stop having players fake injuries to slow games down and create additional timeouts. He added that the SEC will begin looking into feigned injuries, and began penalizing coaches whose teams are found to take part in the practice.
Notably, Sankey says that coaches will be suspended for one game for a third fake injury offense, and concludes by instructing schools to “play football and stop the feigned injury nonsense.”
