Tuesday evening’s grand F1 75 launch event at London’s O2 Arena set the stage for the 2025 Formula 1 season, as Scuderia Ferrari HP unveiled the striking new livery of its latest challenger, the SF-25. The event, attended by CEO Benedetto Vigna, Team Principal Fred Vasseur, and the team’s star drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, also welcomed key representatives from Ferrari’s partners.
Tomorrow, the SF-25 is set to make its track debut behind closed doors at Fiorano, where it will complete up to 200 kilometres in its first shakedown before heading to Bahrain for the sole pre-season test session from February 26 to 28.
SF-25 – Continuity and Innovation: A New Era for Ferrari
The SF-25 name follows Ferrari’s established naming pattern, emphasizing stability in the current regulatory era. It is the 71st Formula 1 car produced by Ferrari and the fourth ground-effect car introduced since the 2022 regulation overhaul. Despite continuity in its nomenclature, the SF-25 is a completely reimagined machine featuring innovative technical solutions that set it apart from its predecessors.

One of the most significant changes, spearheaded by Loic Serra and his technical team, is the transition from a pushrod to a pull-rod front suspension. This adjustment enhances airflow efficiency around the car and provides greater potential for aerodynamic development, which had reached its limits with the previous design. While the car remains an evolution of last year’s competitive SF-24, every aspect has been meticulously refined to extract maximum performance. With stable regulations entering their final year, the field is expected to be incredibly tight, making even the smallest lap-time gains critical.
SF-25 Power Unit: Refinement Over Reinvention
While technical regulations have frozen power unit architecture since 2022, Ferrari engineers have continued to refine its performance. The team has focused on optimizing power unit deployment strategies to maximize efficiency across a variety of race scenarios.
Reliability remains a top priority, and despite further restrictions on testing hours, Ferrari’s engineers have rigorously analyzed and improved every aspect of the PU’s operation based on insights from the 2024 season. Their mission is clear: ensure that every component operates at peak efficiency throughout the gruelling 2025 campaign.
SF-25: A Livery That Honors the Past and Looks to the Future
The SF-25’s livery pays homage to Ferrari’s rich racing heritage while embracing a forward-thinking design philosophy. The 2025 Racing Red, in a deeper matte finish, echoes the bold hues of Ferrari’s early racing machines. A striking white diagonal band serves as a dynamic visual signature, symbolizing innovation and progress.
Subtle yet sophisticated details further elevate the car’s aesthetics. Thin, glossy red and white pinstripes evoke Ferrari’s precision craftsmanship, while the contrast between matte and gloss finishes draws inspiration from the Ferrari 499 Hypercar, linking the brand’s presence across Formula 1 and endurance racing.
Completing the design, the SF-25’s wheel rims are fully red, and the numbers on Leclerc’s and Hamilton’s cars appear in Ferrari’s official font, Ferrari Sans, reinforcing the brand’s signature style.
Final Preparations: Shakedown and Testing
Following its Fiorano shakedown, the SF-25 will embark on its journey to Bahrain for the season’s only official pre-season test before the curtain officially rises on the 2025 championship in Australia on March 16.
Voices from the Scuderia
Fred Vasseur, Team Principal
“The launch of the SF-25 is an incredibly proud moment for our entire team. This car is the result of months of relentless dedication and hard work at Maranello, and we are eager to see it take to the track. Last season, we fought until the very last lap for the Constructors’ title, and we are determined to build on that strong foundation with the clear objective of winning both championships this year.
With Lewis joining Charles, we have a formidable driver lineup that is ready to take the extra step required to compete at the very highest level. We understand the challenges ahead, but we are fueled by passion, ambition, and the unwavering support of our fans. Now, it’s time to let our performance on track do the talking.”
Loic Serra, Technical Director – Chassis
“The SF-25 is an evolution of the SF-24, but nearly every component has been re-engineered to extract more performance. The switch to a pull-rod front suspension is just one of many significant changes designed to improve aerodynamics and handling.
We anticipate an incredibly close season, where even the smallest margins will make the difference. Our goal is to maximize every opportunity, and we are confident that our development path will allow us to challenge at the front from the very first race.”
Enrico Gualtieri, Technical Director – Power Unit
“This project is the culmination of intense effort and meticulous engineering. While power unit regulations have remained unchanged, our focus has been on refining every detail to ensure optimal performance in every race condition.
Reliability is a cornerstone of our approach, and we have dedicated our winter to fine-tuning systems, improving efficiency, and ensuring every component delivers under pressure. The challenges ahead are immense, but we are ready to embrace them with confidence.”
Charles Leclerc #16
“The SF-25 launch is always an exciting milestone. Every year, we push to improve, and I know how hard the team has been working behind the scenes to make this car a winner.
Last season was a fierce battle, and we came agonizingly close to the ultimate prize. This year, the objective is crystal clear: we want to win the Constructors’ Championship, and I want to secure the Drivers’ Title. Having Lewis join the team has already been a great experience, and I know his knowledge and work ethic will push me to be even better.
I’m fully prepared—physically and mentally—and can’t wait to hit the track to fight for Ferrari.”
Lewis Hamilton #44
“These past few weeks at Ferrari have been absolutely phenomenal. Witnessing the team’s passion and commitment up close has been inspiring, and seeing my first Scuderia Ferrari HP car unveiled today is a special moment.
We are all incredibly hungry for success. Coming into this new chapter, I had high expectations, and every moment so far has only reinforced my belief in this team. The energy and determination at Maranello are truly electrifying.
I’m looking forward to pushing the SF-25 to its limits, working alongside Charles, and giving everything to bring Ferrari back to the top.”
