There were rumors for months that Mike McCarthy’s head coaching job with the Dallas Cowboys was in peril, and on Monday, he was finally let go.
His coaching contract expired without either side coming to an agreement on a new one, and just like that, he was gone.
Fox Sports 1 personality Skip Bayless, a well-known Cowboys fan, couldn’t hold back his glee while on “The Skip Bayless Show.”

Bayless admitted he was afraid that after quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury, McCarthy would be retained with Prescott’s injury being his official excuse.
Prescott suffered that injury in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons, a game Dallas lost, and that loss dropped their record to 3-5.
After two more losses in a row, however, backup QB Cooper Rush guided them to four wins in their next five games, and it was thought that perhaps McCarthy had saved his job, for better or worse.
Now it is up to controversial Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to find the right head coach, and he must not only be able to handle the strategic and leadership-related requirements of the job, but also the pressure of being at the helm of “America’s Team,” not to mention working with the hands-on Jones.
They have plenty of star power, but their roster is top-heavy, and they don’t have the salary cap flexibility needed to go out and secure a few reinforcements.
Dallas needs another legitimate wide receiver threat, lots of help at running back and some help on defense, and thus becoming very competitive again soon won’t be easy for them.
