SMU officially entered the ACC at the beginning of July, and they’ve been exploding on the recruiting trail. After flipping Top247 quarterback Ty Hawkins from rival TCU, the Mustangs added another four-star talent in Dramodd Odoms. The Houston Lamar product chose the Mustangs over offers from Mississippi State, Purdue, Houston, Texas A&M, LSU, Michigan and Missouri.
Odoms has been one of the bigger enigmas in the recruiting world as he does very few interviews, and finding any sourced information on him has been difficult. At 6-foot-6, 275 pounds, Odoms is ranked as the No. 7 offensive tackle in the country and No. 9 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports.
SMU was one of three schools to host Odoms on official visits joining Purdue and Mississippi State. While some felt that the Bulldogs had a chance to land him, SMU cemented its status on the official visit, according to a source familiar with the recruitment.
Odoms was a first-team All-District selection as a sophomore and he started at left tackle for a 12-1 Lamar team that reached the third round of the Texas 6A-I playoffs as a junior. Odoms is the fifth prospect rated four stars or better to commit to SMU in the class, and they are firmly inside the Top 25, according to the 247Sports team recruiting rankings. Odoms is the highest rated prospect in the class, and his commitment moves SMU to third in the ACC recruiting rankings trailing only Miami and Clemson.
The 247Sports Scouting Report on Odoms reads as follows:
“Tall, long, relatively lean tackle prospect with left-side experience and the physical and athletic attributes to live on the left for good. Wears his mass well and possesses immense bulking capacity. Plays with a wide base and shows lateral range. Some segmentation to movement patterns at times, but displays obvious functional athleticism with pulling / climbing juice and edge-mirroring agility in pass pro. Dangerous assailant when looking for extra work downfield. Full picture regarding verified athleticism still being painted. Raw in ways but also borderline dominant in flashes. Notably has played linebacker snaps during 7-on-7 competition. Could need some time, but looks like one of the higher-ceiling 2025 tackles in the country. Projects as a high-major multi-year starter with long-term upside beyond college.”
