Week 8 of the college football season further cemented some alarming trends we noticed over the last few weeks with the big-name SEC quarterbacks. Our Power Rankings this week reflect those observations. The headline games of the week featured quarterbacks we’ve had in our top 20 nearly every week this year: Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Georgia’s Carson Beck, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, and Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava. After last week’s performances, those QBs now find themselves in the back end of our top 20 or outside the rankings.
And with those guys moving down or out, that leaves room for new names and big performances to move up and in. Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke continues to impress as does Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel. Clemson’s Cade Klubnik consistent production over the last six weeks has him gradually moving up and we really like what SMU’s Kevin Jennings has shown. And there are new names entering the rankings like NC State’s CJ Bailey and South Carolina’s Lanorris Sellers
In this week’s Power Rankings, we break down the top quarterbacks in college football based on their full season of work, though more weight is placed on what they have done recently, especially last week. Remember we have omitted QB who did not play due to a bye week.
For transparency, there is an emphasis placed on win/loss record, critical situational outcomes like third and fourth down efficiency, red zone conversion rate, fourth quarter production, and NFL throw rate. Basic game-winning stats like touchdown-to-interception ratio, completion percentage, and passing yards were all taken into account as well
