Glasgow Warriors have rearranged their United Rugby Championship fixture with Connacht this weekend due to Storm Eowyn, which is expected to hit Scotland on Friday.
The fixture, which was originally scheduled for Friday night at Scotstoun, has been moved to 15:30 (UK) on Sunday at the same venue.
A Glasgow statement reads: “Safety of spectators, team and venue staff, players, match officials and broadcast personnel are the number one priority and it is clear that the expected weather conditions would severely compromise this.
“The URC would like to thank both teams involved, the host broadcaster Premier Sports and the Irish broadcaster TG4, for their understanding in rearranging this fixture to ensure it takes place on a scheduled weekend.
“All tickets purchased for the match will remain valid for the rescheduled date and kick-off time.”
Sitting in second place in the URC standings, the reigning champions will want to keep the pressure on leaders Leinster with a win on home soil on Sunday.
Franco Smith’s side will enter the match off the back of a 24-7 Investec Champions Cup loss to Harlequins. Despite the defeat, the Warriors still qualified for the round of 16, where they will host Leicester Tigers at Scotstoun on April 5.
In what has been a busy day in Glasgow, Scotland lock Alex Samuel has also signed a new contract with the club.
“I’m really pleased to re-sign with the club,” the 22-year-old told glasgowwarriors.org.
“I was a supporter of the club long before I had the privilege to pull on the playing shirt, and I’m buzzing to be able to spend at least another couple of years here.
“Growing up, coming to Scotstoun as a supporter was awesome, so it’s still a bit of a pinch-myself moment every time I have the opportunity to run out in front of the Warrior Nation. Even just signing as part of the academy for the first time was a massive moment for me – being able to come in and learn from the guys that I’d grown up watching was a huge deal.
“I just want to keep putting my hand up for more game time and more opportunities to play. I’d love another chance to win something as part of this club – I was part of the squad last season but didn’t play in any of the playoff games, so that’s a big target for me.
“Making my Scotland debut was a really proud moment as well, so I’m keen to keep performing as best as I can for Glasgow, and hopefully get back into that Scotland setup as well.”
