SAN ANTONIO – Over 1,000 underclassmen got together inside the AlamoDome on Friday for the annual National Combine, which coincides with the All-American Bowl. The event featured testing, positional drills, and 1-on-1s.
While most fans aren’t familiar with a ton of prospects in the class of 2025, class of 2026, and class of 2027, it should be noted that current NFL players like Trevor Lawrence and Najee Harris participated in the National Combine when they were in high school. The same goes for Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Below is our annual All-Combine Team selected by Tom Loy, Hudson Standish, Mike Roach, Cooper Petagna, Collin Kennedy, Jordan Scruggs, Will Turboff, Christian Clemente, Bryce Koon, Andrew Ivins, Brandon Huffman, Jason Caldwell, Tyler Estes, and Adam Stanco from 247Sports.
ALPHA DOG: WR JAIME FFRENCH, ALABAMA COMMIT (2025)
Ffrench wasn’t initially planning to work out on Friday, but thankfully for us, someone found the star wide receiver out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin a pair of size 12.5 cleats. Ffrench was simply the best of the bunch, scoring just shy of a dozen touchdowns during the second 1-on-1 session. The big-framed pass catcher had no issues breaking free from coverage and made a number of high-level grabs look relatively easy. Ffrench, who 247Sports currently pegs as the nation’s No. 4 wideout in the class of 2025, is coming off a junior campaign in which he caught 62 passes for 1,247 yards and 14 touchdowns.
OFFENSIVE MVP: QB KANEAL SWEETWYNE (2026)
Consistency was the key here in separating the Lehi (Utah) Skyridge class of 2026 quarterback from the rest of the pack as Sweetwyne shined from start to finish. He impressed with his quick trigger, effortless motion, and overall accuracy. If you’re tracking completions, there likely wasn’t a quarterback that completed more balls throughout the day. On the recruiting front, BYU is his only offer to date for Sweetwyne, who spent this past season backing up Southern Utah signee Jackson Stevens.
DEFENSIVE MVP: CB HAVON FINNEY (2027)
It was an overall impressive group of young defensive backs and Finney ended up emerging as our favorite. He was one of the few defenders that was able to cover Ffrench and ended up picking off a pair of passes. Fineey got plenty of burn on varsity as a freshman at Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon and finished the year with seven PBUs to his credit. The 6-foot-2 defender picked up his first offer from Nevada back when he was nine years old. Seriously! His performance earned him an invite to the 2027 All-American Bowl.
FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE
QB Owen Lansu (2026): Part of a three-man race for Offensive MVP, the Downers Grove (Ill.) North high school class of 2026 quarterback impressed once again. The ball jumps out of his hand with plenty of zip, and it was put in a great spot for most of the afternoon session. Look for Lansu to break out this offseason and draw plenty of college interest. This fall, Lansu led his team to a Class 7A state runner-up finish with 11 wins, 29 touchdown passes and 2,100 yards.
QB Ashton Pannell (2026): Pannell, who spent this past season at Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, returns to the 247Sports All-Combine Team for a second consecutive year as he looked like the most polished signal caller with his clean delivery. He’s had the same release since he hit 247Sports’ radar as a seventh grader and continues to spin the ball accurately at a very high level. Arizona State, Indiana, SMU and others have already offered Pannell.
RB Conor Booth, Nebraska commit (2025): Booth may transition to linebacker by the time that he arrives in Lincoln, but the Wahoo (Neb.) Bishop Neumann star decided to take his reps solely at running back. At 6-foot-1, 212 pounds, Booth was able to fight through the majority of contact he received. A two-sport star, Booth has offers from both the Huskers football and baseball programs and in 2023, he averaged over 215 yards per game and recorded 31 touchdowns.
RB Nicholas Tramble (2026): At 5-foot-9, 160 pounds, Tramble was far from the most physically imposing prospect in his group, but that didn’t stop him from winning nearly every rep against the linebackers in attendance. Having previously recorded a sub-4.4 40 yard dash, Tramble’s speed was showcased in routes that sent him to the end zone, where he came down with just about everything thrown his way. Tramble currently holds offers from Kansas State, SMU and UNLV among others.
WR Judah Ofori-Ansah (2025): One of the better route runners across the combine, Ofori-Ansah flashed short-area quickness, burst, and impressive ball skills. He created separation quickly, especially in route concepts towards the middle of the field and didn’t shy away from contact when defensive backs tried to close in at the catch point. Ofori-Ansah’s only offer to date is from Yale. He attends Alexandria (Va.) Episcopal.
WR Fonzy Smith (2025): A lanky, fluid mover with plenty of nuance, Smith (and his red-tipped dreads) made multiple plays in the deeper third, constantly showcasing his ability to stretch the field. A two-way player at Fayetteville (N.C.) Trinity Christian School, Smith looked like a potential offensive weapon at the next level as he rarely ever was rerouted or phased at the catch point.
WR Kamryn Jones (2025): The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco wide receiver was one of the bigger surprises on the day after proving to be nearly unrecoverable during the opening session. Jones only has two catches for St. John Bosco in his high school career per Maxpreps, but certainly looks the part of a Power Five wideout. Jones can operate out of the slot or outside the numbers and does a tremendous job setting up his routes at the top of his stem.
WR Ed Small (2025): A Texas baseball commit, Small plays against stiff competition at Austin (Texas) Anderson. While he could be just an outfielder in college, he’s starting to pick up more football interest after totaling over 1,000 yards as a junior. He was one of the better wideouts when it came to making contested catches and constantly got open on Friday at all three different levels of the field.
WR Lex Cyrus (2025): A long strider who made scoring at the third level seem easy at times. The Top247 wideout from Harrisburg (Penn.) Susquehanna Township owns a verified 10.45 personal best in the 100-meter dash and proved to have too much juice for overmatched defensive backs during the nearly two-hour 1-on-1 session.
OT Austin Pay (2025): Standing at 6-foot-7 and 290-pounds, Pay is certainly hard to miss. Possessing a lean frame with an ideal build at the offensive tackle position, the Lone Peak High School (Utah) displayed good foot and body quickness in addition to exhibiting a natural ability to anchor in pass protection during 1-on-1’s. With a natural athletic base and the size to go with it, expect Pay to continue garner interest on the recruiting trail.
OT Myles Joseph (2026): The 2026 tackle from Peoria (AZ.) Centennial stood out both in individual drill work and one-on-ones during Friday’s action. Listed at 6-foot-4, 280 pounds, Joseph was sudden out of his stance and sturdy showing off heavy hands and the ability to anchor against the run.
IOL Daniel Boyd (2025): A rising senior from Las Vegas’ (Nev.) Arbor View High School, Boyd turned in one of the most consistent performances of the evening, utilizing his sturdy frame and natural power to stonewall his opponents at the line of scrimmage. A barrel chested athlete hovering around 6-foot-4 and 290-pounds, Boyd’s physicality and ability to move defenders with ease should lend well to him being a natural fit on the interior offensive line at the next level.
IOL Isaac Sowells Jr. (2025): The Louisville Male (Ky.) standout made sure to take advantage of some additional reps in 1-on-1’s this afternoon as he produced two of the more exciting individual snaps of the day displaying his length and athleticism on the interior. The son of former Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Isaac Sowells, the genes and natural feel of the position are easily apparent.
IOL Nicolas Robertson (2026): Robertson worked inside and outside throughout the day and showed the ability to handle interior strength and perimeter speed. The Klein (Texas) offensive lineman showed off a great punch with excellent hand placement. He showed the ability to anchor well against bigger rushers and showed a strong understanding of utilizing leverage against his opponents.
FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE
DL Mykah Newton (2025): A junior from Newberry (Fla.), Newton first flashed on bag drills before carrying over success to the 1-on-1 session. Newton is listed at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, and he could be a candidate to move to the interior at the next level. Still, he showed off strong functional athleticism and great hand usage throughout the day.
DL Floyd Guidry (2025): Listed at 6-foot-1, 275 pounds, the rising senior from Spring (Texas) was disruptive in reach block 1-on-1 drills and shined during his pass-rushing reps. He uses his quickness and low center of gravity to get on top of opposing offensive linemen before using his strength to overpower them. Guidry was selected for the “final final” showcase where he won both of his reps.
DL Elijah Golden (2026): Arguably the most impressive performance of any defensive lineman in attendance, not many had answers for Golden, who has transferred into IMG Academy. Listed at 6-foot-3 and a shade under 240-pounds, Golden flashed excellent foot speed and body quickness off the line of scrimmage, showing the ability to not only win with speed, but also power. Expect Golden’s profile to continue to ascend as he boasted one of the most complete performances of any prospects regardless of position in San Antonio.
DL Jameil Hamm (2025): Estimated at 6-foot-3 and 225-pounds, the Glenville High School standout (Ohio) demonstrated some quick twitch and first step explosiveness off the line of scrimmage in 1-on-1’s as Hamm’s speed and athleticism proved to be difficult to defend for a majority of opposing offensive linemen. Only scratching the surface of his physical development, Hamm should be a fun player to watch develop over the course of the next year.
LB Shadarius Toodle (2026): Toodle’s efforts earned him an invite to the 2026 All-American Bowl and did that rightfully so. At 6-foot-3 going into his junior season at Mobile (Ala.) Cottage Hill Christian Academy, Toodle has loads of time to add on to his already impressive frame. Baylor, Vanderbilt and Marshall are currently the only offers on the table, but there are likely many more on the way as he’s got the ideal off-ball linebacker profile.
LB Ty Jackson (2025): Debatably the best linebacker in his group, Jackson was locking down everyone in his area. The Loxahatchee (Fla.) Seminole Ridge standout shined at both linebacker spots in 1-on-1s, but was especially exciting to watch at slot, not allowing a single catch in the end zone all day. Jackson has an 87 rating and holds offers from LSU, Miami, Florida and over a dozen more.
LB Ezekiel Marcelin (2025): When he competed at the second group in the combine, Marcelin was head and shoulders above nearly all other linebackers on the field. Out of the powerhouse that is Miami Central, Marcelin showed off his elite ball-tracking skills and you could probably count the number of catches he allowed on one hand. Miami, Michigan, Florida State and Auburn have offered.
DB Jacob Whitehead (2027): Whitehead was one of the best cornerbacks in attendance and immediately caught our eyes with his superb length for the position. The reach was certainly notable, but we also liked how fluid he was out on the perimeter. After breaking up four passes and displaying consistently excellent coverage, Whitehead earned an invite to the 2027 All-American Bowl. He saw plenty of reaction at Inglewood (Calif.) this season.
DB Courtland Guillory (2025): Guillory was another tall and lanky defensive back who flashed plenty of functional athleticism while shutting down outside targets. The Klein (Texas) Oak standout looked comfortable playing bump-and-run coverage and also flashed the ability to close space quickly upon route recognition.
DB Nigel Pringle (2025): Pringle had a legitimate case for defensive MVP after snagging multiple interceptions during the extended 1-on-1 period. Pringle, who plays at Alvin (Texas) Shadow Creek, stepped up to the task of defending Jamie Ffrench during the majority of the final hour. He has a knack for getting his head around quickly and making plays on the ball when covering on an island.
DB Simeon Caldwell (2026): A product of The Bolles School in Jacksonville (Fla.), Caldwell caught our attention quickly because of his impressive build at nearly 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. The 2026 defender is the son of Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell and had his fair share of cerebral moments while covering receivers inside and outside of the numbers. Caldwell had one of the reps of the day, cutting in front of a comeback route to secure an interception.
