Almost everything that could’ve gone wrong for the New York Jets this season went wrong.
Robert Saleh couldn’t make it to the midpoint of the campaign, and GM Joe Douglas isn’t there anymore.
Of course, Aaron Rodgers isn’t the only one to blame for their shortcomings, as much as some fans and media members want to make it seem that way.
Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but he also comes with a lot of baggage.
So, at this point in his career, and playing the way he played, one can only start wondering if he’s worth all the extra distraction.
According to a report by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, that’s how the Jets feel right now.
Apparently, the team is leaning towards ending their ties with the future Hall of Famer:
“League sources have found it difficult to believe the Jets will retain Rodgers for the 2025 season, which would allow for the new regime to start fresh at the most important position in sports,” Jones said.
That way, the Jets could start fresh with a new regime.
That makes sense, as Rodgers was never meant to be a long-term solution for this team at this point in his career.
He’s no longer taking shots down the field, and while he’s never been particularly mobile, his mobility has also been severely compromised.
Rodgers is also reportedly mulling the possibility of playing for another franchise.
Even though he’s no longer the player he used to be and, again, comes with some extra luggage, multiple teams could still be interested in acquiring his services next season.
