Former Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb accepted the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator job last week, upending his move to Alabama as part of Kalen DeBoer’s debut Crimson Tide staff. Grubb, whom Alabama never formally introduced as its offensive coordinator, assured the crowd at a program event that he would be on staff for the 2024 season but days later elected to remain in Seattle and take the NFL job.
It was a whirlwind process for one of the nation’s brightest offensive minds, who spearheaded college football’s most prolific passing attack over each of the last two seasons. With two fanbases stunned by his departure, Grubb addressed his move to the pro ranks Thursday during his introductory press conference with the Seahawks.
“You just know that the timing is never going to be perfect,” Grubb said to the Seattle media. “Best possible scenario — you’d love those timelines to marry up a little bit better. That was the hardest part, honestly.”
