The Kansas City Chiefs are in a position to capture their third-straight Super Bowl trophy as they headline Super Bowl LIX along with the Philadelphia Eagles.
While the rematch of Super Bowl LVII is exciting on paper, the real story is whether or not the Chiefs can accomplish a vaunted “three-peat.”
No other team has been able to win three straight titles, but Kansas City is in the driver’s seat, given the season they’ve had.
The Chiefs seemed more vulnerable than usual during the 2024 NFL season, but they still found ways to win close games despite looking like they would lose.
Fans have turned to blaming the officials for Kansas City’s success, with them bringing up questionable calls that favored the defending champions.
However, NFL legend Tom Brady isn’t buying the referee conspiracy theories via Bridget Reilly of the New York Post.
“I think it’s just all BS. It’s just a bunch of noise,” Brady said. “These refs have very challenging jobs to do. I’m very happy Twitter didn’t exist during the Tuck Rule Game in 2001, let me say that. I would’ve been on the wrong end on a lot of those. But these refs are out there trying to do their very best.”
Brady has every reason to dismiss concerns over officiating, as there is no proof that there is a mandate to help a team like the Chiefs.
Fans blaming officials for wins or losses is not new in sports and is often a cop-out to justify why a team may be successful or not.
By all accounts, Kansas City is winning fair and square, and it’ll be interesting to see if they do so again.
