Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy Top 100 receiver Donovan Olugbode has announced his much-anticipated commitment. The 6-1, 200-pounder from the class of 2025 chose to play his college ball at the University of Missouri.
The Tigers beat plenty of top suitors to land Olugbode. Washington and USC were the top contenders down the stretch. Florida battled closely as well, and Oregon was in contention. However, in the end it was head coach Eli Drinkwitz and his staff that got the job done.
Olugbode went in-depth with 247Sports about his commitment and why he wants to play at Missouri.
On what had Missouri in the hunt for him for so long: “Probably Kirby Moore and the whole offensive staff. What Kirby Moore does with the offense and how it showcases receivers. There is development at the receiver position with coach Peeler and coach Key, the assistant receivers coach.”
On his commitment to Missouri: “Definitely Matt Zollers and what he can do with the football, and Kirby Moore and his offense, all of that combined, you can’t go wrong with it.”
On when he knew it was Missouri: “A couple of days after the official visit. I just had a feeling. I sat down with my family, broke it down, went over a few things, and we felt like it was the right place.”
On the moment he told the staff: “First I called Drink, the head coach, Facetimed him, I broke him the news and he was extremely excited. He was happy for me. He congratulated me and said he was excited to get this thing on the road. Then I called coach Peeler, the receivers coach, and let him know the news. He was extremely pumped and excited for me.”
On his relationship with receivers coach Jacob Peeler: “This impacted me a lot. He is a good development coach at the receivers position. Not only with football, but how he acts around family and when he’s outside the facilities. He’s a good man. He’s genuine. I took all of that into account.”
On what Missouri fans can expect from him on and off the field: “Day one, you can expect a hard worker. Someone that puts his head down and works. Someone who doesn’t care about the outside noise. Just a hard worker.”
