When it comes to college football’s most successful programs of all-time, a common theme prevails — legendary coaches with elite talent. Those among the top 15 ranked by all-time win percentage combined to dominate the sport for decades, most falling under the blue-blood label with recruiting strongholds and ample resources. Heading into the conference championship weekend of the 2024 season, we’ve updated all win-loss records for each.
Not all programs played the same number of games, so total wins isn’t the most objective way to access the top of the rankings. Win percentage is calculated by dividing a team’s number of total wins, including bowl and playoff games, by their total number of games. Ties count as half-wins and half-losses by the NCAA. Nearly half of the teams in this all-time ranking remain in College Football Playoff contention this fall.
A few of the included winningest programs inside the top 15 are in the midst of unrivaled success, like Georgia, while others are historic blue bloods trying to emerge from the ranks of mediocrity in recent years with new staffs and leadership.
