Five-star point guard Zoom Diallo is headed home.
The 6-foot-4 senior at Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep announced on Saturday during a press conference in his hometown of Tacoma, Wash. that he’s coming home to play for Washington.
From the sounds of it, head coach Mike Hopkins owes an assist to a pair of his assistants who were key in Diallo’s decision making.
“I chose Washington because I felt like it was the best place for me to come in and play through my mistakes and continue to grow my game,” Diallo told 247Sports. “Especially in the player development aspect with the NBA experience with Coach Conroy and Coach Pondexter.”
A big, physical and strong floor general, Diallo is a hard worker who plays with toughness on both ends of the floor. A high character guy and an outstanding student as well, Diallo feels like his mentality and approach to the game will be just as impactful as his physical ability and skill.
“The areas I can help out as a freshman is with my winning mentality and work ethic,” said Diallo. “I feel like I can bring that into others.”
Ranked No. 19 overall in the class of 2024, Diallo is the second member of the Huskies recruiting class. He joins explosive three-star guard Casmir Chavis in what could be Washington’s backcourt of the future.
After a recruitment that lasted longer than he had planned on, Diallo is excited to have his decision out of the way and he’s looking forward to returning home to do so.
“Man this journey has been long and stressful but filled with joy,” said Diallo. “I am very excited to stay close to home in front of family and friends with Washington on my back representing my state.”
