FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Goodland (Kan.) High Top247 tight end Linkon Cure flashed his explosive playmaking ability during pool play of the Battle Miami 7v7 event, suiting up for a uber-talented California Power team that has no shortage or playmakers.
Tabbed by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 2 tight end, Cure gave insight on his recruitment with a few programs emerging.
“Kansas State, Penn State, Oregon, Texas A&M, they’ve definitely been in a lot of contact, I love the staffs, we have great relationships so they’ve been doing a great job.”
The 6-foot-6, 215-pound Cure says the in-state Wildcats are the one leading the pack.
“I’d say so,” Cure said. “Just development, relationships, perks of just being there. It’s close by. A lot of guys relatable to me. Yeah it’d be a great place.”
Cure emphasized the word “loyalty” regarding Kansas State.
“They’re loyal to their players,” Cure said. “They really care. Out of everybody they’re probably the most honest coaching staff I’ve talked to.”
Oregon has a lot of what Cure is looking for.
“Really everything,” Cure said of what stands out. “I was a fan growing up. I really love Coach Dan Lanning and Coach (Drew) Mehringer. I have really good relationships with them. I went up there for the USC-Oregon game. That was a lot of fun. I loved it.”
Cure had maybe his best game experience at Penn State.
“I went up there for the White Out game,” Cure said. “You could imagine where I developed my love for that. They have great tight end development. Me and Coach (James) Franklin and Coach (Ty) Howle and Coach (Andy) K(otelnicki) we had a great relationship when he was at Kansas. He moved to Penn State. That made it more appealing the way he develops tight ends in his offense.”
Texas A&M is a riser in the recruitment of Cure.
“Definitely Collin Klein was the guy, right when he went to Texas A&M he told me he’d start recruiting me hard,” Cure said. “Me and him had a really good relationship at K-State. When he made that move over and started talking to me they became an option.”
247Sports ranks Cure as the nation’s No. 37 prospect regardless of position. He’d like to come to a decision in the near future.
“Get to that dead period and get grounded, start evaluating stuff,” Cure said. The dead period begins Feb. 5. “I’ll sit down with my parents, start talking over stuff. See pros and cons of colleges and just kind of evaluate everything.
“Ideally I’d like to do it a little sooner. When you know you know. I can’t tell when that would be.”
