Tulane played host to Lamar Brown over the weekend.
Rivals’ No. 1-ranked interior offensive lineman was in New Orleans on Saturday and made a visit to the Green Wave with several teammates at Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab to Tulane’s campus.
Green Wave head coach Jon Sumrall was among the coaches to spend time around the in-state blue-chipper as Tulane made a strong impression on the highly covered OL target.
“It went well,” Brown said of his time Uptown this weekend. “I met some new coaches and some players in my class. Coach Sumrall and his staff are just different from others — the standard they preach at Tulane is something I’ve never heard of from other schools.”
Sumrall and his Tulane staff made a pitch to Brown that quickly put themselves in a league of their own — comparing the 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman to Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter — a projected first-round pick based off his skill-set to play on both sides of the ball.
“They talked about me being the Travis Hunter there in the trenches,” Brown told Rivals. “That’s something I would love to do if I have the chance to do it.”
Brown, the No. 18 overall player in the Rivals250 out of The Boot, is being courted on different sides of the ball by different programs.
For instance, Texas A&M loves Brown as a defensive lineman. The in-state Tigers, on the other hand, are recruiting one of the nation’s best on offense.
Tulane opened the door up for Brown to fill a role on either side of the line of scrimmage.
“I feel good about them,” said Brown, who won’t have a commitment made until the Early Signing Period in December.
Next up for Brown is a visit to LSU on February 1. He will return to Texas A&M on March 22 when spring football gets underway, and he’s set for another stop on April 19.
Brown will make his first official visit to Alabama on May 30. Tennessee and Oregon are also trending for official visits this off-season.
