Former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, seems interested in rematching Max Holloway with the “BMF” title on the line. That’s assuming reigning lightweight titleholder, Islam Makhachev, is on the shelf until the promotion returns to Abu Dhabi in October.
Makhachev captured the 155-pound crown by submitting “Do Bronx” at UFC 280.
Holloway was quick to respond and offered to fight during International Fight Week, typically held the first week of July in Las Vegas. Fans were divided over the potential booking, suggesting Oliveira wait for the Makhachev do-over later this year.
Holloway defeated Oliveira nearly a decade ago at UFC Saskatoon.
“Blessed” (26-8) is moving to the lightweight division after suffering a knockout loss to current 145-pound champion, Ilia Topuria, at UFC 308 last October. As for Oliveira (35-10, 1 NC), he’s just a couple of months removed from his Michael Chandler victory at UFC 309 in New York.
Whether or not matchmakers agree with this rematch remains to be seen.
