Last but certainly not least in this track and field showcase, shot put and discus standouts wrap up our spring stars. Again, this is not a comprehensive list of the remaining impressive shot/disc numbers from Top247 prospects, but 10 more names who deserve recognition here.
No. 247 – Travis Buhake, DL, Mansfield (Texas) Summit: produced the No. 1 shot put throw, a whopping 60-5.5, of anybody in the updated Top247. Also recorded a strong 149-3 discus rep.
No. 18 – Ty Haywood, OT, Denton (Texas) Ryan: produced one of the best shot put numbers in the Top247 with a throw of 58-6, one of nearly a dozen 50+ throws from February through April for the five-star OT.
No. 117 – DJ Sanders, DL, Bellville (Texas): a 57-foot shot put rep in March set the stage for a Texas 4A state-qualifying performance later in the spring.
No. 228 – Nic Moore, IOL, Dandridge (Tenn.) Jefferson County: posted a 56-8 shot put in March, one of several 50+ efforts in the past couple of months.
No. 203 – Demetris Dean, OT, Jasper (Texas): his Top247-leading 194-8 discus preceded a top four finish (177-4) at the Texas 4A championships, where Dean also finished seventh in the shot put (49-2). A 52-11 shot put rep at regionals earned his spot to state. — Brooks
