Should Manuel Neuer get a new contract that ties him to Bayern Munich past 2025?
There have been calls for Bayern to let the legendary goalkeeper go due to his declining shot stopping, but the noise from the media indicates that a renewal is on its way. When it comes to handling the departure of a legend such as Manuel Neuer, who is currently in his 13th season at the club since arriving from Schalke 04, a cold and casual release was never going to happen.
Instead, head coach Vincent Kompany reveals a different approach to negotiations: “We’re trying to be a little bit like a family,” Kompany says, via @iMiaSanMia. “We always discuss it with the player first. Especially when he’s such a legend who has achieved so much.”
One has to wonder how big Kompany’s role in the matter is, considering Christoph Freund and Max Eberl are those in charge of contracts at the club. But he reveals the truth we all should have known: Appreciation for Neuer’s past achievements were always going to come into play. Now the ones in charge need to find the perfect balance between such appreciation and the desire to move forward.
