What does the future bring for Bayern Munich and Thomas Müller?
How about we enjoy the present first, says Bayern coach Vincent Kompany.
The 35-year-old led the line for the Bavarians on Tuesday against Shakhtar Donetsk, with Harry Kane out injured, and made two decisive goal contributions — one a score, the other a save — that he celebrated equally.
Good old Thomas.
“Let’s talk about these 90 minutes,” Kompany said after the match in response to questions about Müller’s expiring contract (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “His goal was a quality he’s always had in his career, to be in the right place at the right time. His energy, passion, leadership, it’s very important for us to have a mix of experienced and young players. He has a very important role on and off the pitch. But I won’t talk about the future now.”
One gets the sense that Müller does not have quite the stamina or verve that he used to. But watching him on the field, or celebrating his teammates from the sidelines, it is clear that the energy and the fire is not gone yet. Long live der Raumdeuter!
