The Brumbies have confirmed a one-year extension of Wallaroo flyhalf Faitala Moleka – following a breakout 2024 season.
Moleka has been one of the women’s game-rising stars since making her Super Rugby Women’s debut against the Fijiana Drua in 2023 – with the Brumbies making the semi-finals in her two seasons in Canberra.
In 2023, she became one of the youngest-ever debutants for the Wallaroos at just 18 years of age – also against Fiji.
Moleka went on to have an outstanding year Jo Yapp’s side in 2024, stepping into the flyhalf role after Arabella McKenzie was ruled out due to injury. She went on to become an integral part of the end-of-year tour, guiding the side in South Africa to WXV 2 success – an effort that won her the Wallaroos Rookie of the Year award.
With such a valuable player and a proven winner that will add depth to the Wallaroos halves combination in a World Cup year, Moleka’s signature will be a valuable one for both the Brumbies and the national side – with the playmaker now aiming for a title with her debut club.
“Re-signing at the Brumbies was definitely a no-brainer, I’m super grateful for what this club has done for me personally as an athlete, I love this place,” said Moleka in the Brumbies press statement.
“Andy [Friend] is someone I love to work with in improving my game and seeing that experience and coaching background in action has been great, he definitely made the decision easy for me.”
Respected coach Andy Friend is set to manage the side and is expecting the playmaker’s strong form to continue into the 2025 season as preparations commence for the Rugby World Cup in England.
“Faitala has continued to showcase her superb talents over the past 12 months, shining for both the Brumbies and the Wallaroos. Her decision to remain in Canberra for the upcoming season is very exciting and a huge positive for us as a team,” said Friend.
“She will play a really important role in guiding our 2025 campaign, as her game management and skill set are world-class.”
