Alexandre Pantoja was all business and Kai Asakura was brimming with confidence as the flyweights faced off for the first time ahead of their showdown in the UFC 310 main event.
Following the conclusion of the pre-fight press conference on Thursday, Pantoja stood stoic as he took the stage and stared down his opponent, who is making his octagon debut with a chance at becoming UFC champion.
In return, Asakura kept his sunglasses on while showing that he enjoys a bit of a height advantage over the reigning UFC flyweight champion.
While Asakura is competing in the UFC for the first time, he didn’t show any jitters during the press conference or his faceoff with Pantoja as he seeks to win the belt after previously holding a championship in RIZIN.
In the co-main event, former training partners Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry shook hands and even shared a hug while preparing to meet in a fight to determine the next No. 1 contender in the welterweight division.
After the fighters faced off on stage, Garry smiled and shouted “16-0, baby!” to the crowd in attendance.
