The Big 12 expects to be a wide-open race for the 2024 college football season. No team is a clear-cut favorite with an obvious path to the conference title game. Instead, there is a group of teams not separated by much on paper, setting up for a potential down-to-the-wire finish in November to determine which two will represent at the Big 12 Championship Game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
One team is guaranteed to make the College Football Playoff, but the conference likely needs two teams to clearly separate themselves from the rest of the pack to secure an at-large bid into the expanded 12-team field.
The Big 12 is now up to 16 teams with the additions of Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah — which could be a top contender in its first season as a new member. Will the Utes break up the party? Or will a traditional Big 12 school reign supreme in 2024?
