Werder Bremen midfielder Romano Schmid knows his squad is facing an uphill battle against Bayern Munich, but the 25-year-old Austrian believes the team will be ready to try and take down the Bundesliga powerhouse.
“We know about Bayern’s quality. Games in Munich are always very difficult. Everything has to come together to win there, and Bayern shouldn’t be having their best day either. If we’re at 110%, then anything is possible. We’re definitely going there to take something. We have to play our game. And we shouldn’t make so many naive mistakes and defend more actively than we did in the 0-5 defeat in the first game. We have to focus on ourselves and fight with 110%,” Schmid said (as captured by Tz’s Philipp Kessler via @iMiaSanMia).
One area where Schmid thinks Werder Bremen will be able to exploit the Bavarians is with quick counterattacks — a thorn in the side of Bayern Munich all season.
“We’ve already proven this season that we can be a very good counter-attacking team. We create a lot of chances in transition. We’re always dangerous when we pursue our goal together and everyone fights for each other. What makes us special is that we are a team and stick together. Our main focus and goal is that we all act as a unit,” Schmid said.
Can Werder Bremen find that magic formula to breakdown Bayern Munich’s backline?
