Now that the head coaching carousel has stopped spinning around the NFL, with only the New Orleans Saints left to fill that vacancy, many new coaches are scrambling to fill the rest of their new coaching staff quickly.
Former star wide receiver Wes Welker has recently been mentioned in connection with coaching openings, and there’s one familiar team that seems to have him in mind for their staff.
Mike Reiss shared that Welker is “among the options” who the New England Patriots are considering for their vacant wide receivers coach position, which would reunite Welker with new head coach Mike Vrabel after the two coached with the Houston Texans in 2017.

Welker and Vrabel overlapped for a couple of years as teammates with the Patriots back in 2007-08.
Welker also has experience playing under new Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who will be assuming the role for the third time.
Welker has served as the wide receiver coach for the Miami Dolphins for the past three years after holding the same position with the San Francisco 49ers for the three years prior.
Returning home to the Patriots would be a fun homecoming while also giving the Pats a strong addition to the staff, as Welker’s WR units have done an impressive job over his tenures with the Niners and Dolphins.
The Patriots seem to still be working through interviews, but this feels like a slam-dunk hire that is only a matter of time.
