My friends, if you love getting riled up over the cost of all things golf-related, this is your week.
Last week, we shared with you the story of the XXIO Prime Royal Edition metalwoods and irons. Today, we bring you the latest from Swedish golf apparel manufacturer Galvin Green: the 2025 Part One Collection.
Let me preface this piece by sharing that there are two schools of thought when it comes to golf apparel. The first school believes that if you really want what can be referred to as “the good stuff,” it will come with a commensurate price tag. At that point, it comes down to whether you A) want it and B) can afford it.
The second school is the “Baller on a Budget” who believes good enough is good enough. The Baller on a Budget is the markdown champ who has no idea why anyone would want to buy a $399 rain jacket or $349 rain pants. They just don’t play golf when it rains.
With that, let’s take a look at Galvin Green’s latest.
What’s Galvin Green’s 2025 Collection Part One Collection all about?
Galvin Green was founded in 1990 in Sweden by a gentleman not named Galvin Green but Tomas Nilsson. If you remember rain gear from the early ‘90s, you remember it as being bulky, uncomfortable, hot and restrictive. Nilsson, like any entrepreneur, thought he could do better. Galvin Green was one of, if not the first, to incorporate GORE-TEX® membranes into its waterproof gear and the company also infused a bit of Scandinavian color and style.
Which brings us to the 2025 Collection Part One.
According to Galvin Green, the new collection combines traditional styles with advanced and responsibly sourced fabrics. That includes fabrics using recycled polyesters and plastic bottles.
“A key part of our DNA is to keep driving innovation in the golf apparel sector,” says Galvin Green Product Manager Sofia Ask-Klason. “This exceptional range not only achieves that but also aligns with our commitment to reducing social and environmental impact.”
Men’s and women’s offerings
Galvin Green’s 2025 Part One Collection is headlined by the AMES full-zip ($399) and ADAM half-zip ($389) men’s rain jackets. The women’s counterparts are called the AMY and ANDREA. They’re the first Galvin Green rain jackets to feature PERTEX® Shield Stretch Technology, a three-layer fabric designed to stretch while you swing while also being waterproof.
The line also features a men’s waterproof hooded jacket (AKRON – $389) as well as several lower-priced (relatively speaking) men’s and women’s windproof, water-resistant jackets and mid-layers ranging in price from $199 to $299. The LARRY, at $199, is a half-zip windbreaker that weighs less than a sleeve of golf balls.
The line also features a full line of men’s and women’s shirts and blouses along with more outerwear including vests, mid-layers and windbreakers.
Is the Galvin Green 2025 Part One Collection worth it?
That’s your call.
I have a couple of Galvin Green shirts (admittedly purchased at end-of-season liquidation) as well as a neck gaiter and winter cap (also bought end-of-season) and have no regrets about those purchases. Rain gear is a trickier value proposition. I’d venture to guess most of us, when we’re at home, skip golf when it’s raining. Those bucket list trips to Bandon, Pebble or St Andrews? I don’t care if it’s a hurricane; I’m going out. That’s when top-shelf rain gear makes a difference. It’s going to be miserable but really good rain gear makes it a little less miserable.
