Most golf fans agree the season revolves around the major championships. To make sure you’re ready for the biggest events, here are some key details about this year’s men’s major championships.
The Masters
- Dates: April 10–13
- Location: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Ga.
- 2024 Champion: Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler won his second green jacket in 2024. That win (and a few others last year) makes him the early favorite to defend. Other top picks include Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele.
PGA Championship
- Dates: May 15–18
- Location: Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, N.C.
- 2024 Champion: Xander Schauffele
This is not the first time the PGA Championship has been held at Quail Hollow. Thomas won here in 2017. Scheffler is the top pick to win over defending champion Schauffele.
U.S. Open
- Dates: June 12–15
- Location: Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, Pa.
- 2024 Champion: Bryson DeChambeau
The U.S. Open is returning to historic Oakmont for the 10th time. It last hosted in 2016 when Dustin Johnson won. Other champions at Oakmont include Tommy Armour, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller and Ernie Els. Once again (sensing a theme?), Scheffler is the favorite.
The Open Championship
- Dates: July 17–20
- Location: Royal Portrush Golf Club, Portrush, Northern Ireland
- 2024 Champion: Xander Schauffele
This will be the third time Royal Portrush plays host to the Open Championship. When it was held in 2019, Irishman Shane Lowry won. Scheffler is the favorite with a narrow lead over McIlroy who grew up playing Portrush..
