Caleb Downs shocked most of college football when he opted to transfer to Ohio State instead of the perceived-favorite Georgia. The 6-foot, 203-pound five-star safety started in all 14 games and earned the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award. Downs totaled 107 tackles, becoming the first freshman in Crimson Tide history to lead the program in stops. He also had two interceptions, three pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
