UFC 312 has lost a great fight but gained an interesting one.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) newcomer Aleksandre Topuria, the older brother of Ilia Topuria, was supposed to fight top Australian prospect and Contender Series contract winner Cody Haddon next weekend at UFC 312, which will take place inside Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Unfortunately, Haddon fractured his right foot and had to pull out.
The good news is that Aleksandre is still fighting at UFC 312 and will fight fellow newcomer Colby Thicknesse, who is Alexander Volkanovski’s main training partner.
The former UFC Featherweight champion mentioned in the video above that this new fight has a fun little story attached to it.
Indeed, Thicknesse can avenge Volkanovski by taking out Ilia’s brother, just like “El Matador” took out “The Great” for the Featherweight title at UFC 298 (watch highlights).
Nevertheless, Thickness (7-0) is sitting pretty with an undefeated record and is riding a three-fight finish streak in which he stopped all of his opponents in the first round.
Topuria (5-1) holds a 100% finish rate with three knockouts and two submissions and is riding a three-fight win streak. He hasn’t competed since May 2023.
